The Frister Rossmann QE404 sewing machine provides an exclusive level of stitch control. With 170 utility and embroidery stitches, alphabet fonts and capable of sewing any type of material. Included in the package is a hard plastic protective cover which is not normally found at this price level. Nor is the other additional add-ons like needle up/down function, plus many stitch patterns can be mirrored.
The QE404 proves that not everything that is computerised has to be complicated. Clearly defined control buttons on the front panel allow you to select your stitch pattern. Because so many stitches have been packed in, they have been grouped in 3 modes and to help you navigate all the stitches can be viewed on the front panel for quick reference which saves reaching for the instruction book.
- Mode one selection is for most used utility stitches.
- Mode two selection has a unique range of decorative patterns.
- Mode three selection is fonts, upper case alphabet and numbers.
Each stitch is pre-set to its optimum setting, but can be fine tuned with the +/- buttons for personal preference. Upper case alphabet including numbers and punctuation can be stored in the memory to string letters together and stitch out names tapes. All of the regular utility stitches are available including overlock, stretch plus no less than 13 different styles of buttonhole. All stitched out in one step, automatically matching the size of the button. Combinations of standard, keyhole, round end and stretch button holes plus eyelets. Not only does it look good but offers many labour saving functions.
At approx 8.5Kg it not the lightweight, but when considering how the powerful motor will effortless manage seaming of any fabric from the lightest silks, heavy denim to multi layers while quilting, its not surprising. The feed dog can also be lowered, which is essential for free embroidery.
Complete with extension table, the QE404 is also ideal for those larger projects and for quilting enthusiasts with specialist presser feet included such as the walking foot, straight stitch foot and free hand embroidery foot.
Choose your desired stitch by simply pressing the stitch selection button. Quickly set the stitch width and length with the touch buttons. Secure the ends of your stitching by selecting the reverse/reinforcement stitch key. Choose whether the needle is up or down when the machine stops with the needle-stop position key.
By reducing the sewing speed, beginners will be able to work with confidence and accuracy. This feature is also useful when working on intricate detail.

My overall rating is: out of 5. Good I received this machine about a week ago and have already had quite a good 'play' with it. This is my first computerized sewing machine, bought to replace an ancient New Home electric machine, and I am very pleased with how easy it is to use. You would think Frister & Rossmann would splash out to correct the instruction manual which is hilarious on occasion, but all the basics are understandable and the machine itself is straight forward to use anyway. I have made a couple of things so far and tried out several of the stitch patterns, all of which I am pleased with. The 'mirror' function on some of the stitches will be particularly useful. I was also delighted with all the accessories which came with it, plus highly pleased with the excellent service from Sewing Machine Sales - they are impressively helpful and speedy. My overall rating is: out of 5. Good Haven't tried all the stitches yet but used the walking foot on my quilt and it was great, smooth as silk. I have a very fancy computerized machine which is quite old now and needed a more simple one but daily use and this easily fits the bill. Plus, it has lots of the extras that I like such as variable speed and more than enough embroidery stitches including the alphabet. So far, very pleased and it was a reasonable price as well. My overall rating is: out of 5. Excellent Have had this machine for the weekend and had a good play. Instruction manual is pretty sparse so it is just as well that the machine is pretty intuitive. It's easy to use and I have tried most functions making a mobile phone holder, using blanket stitch, applique and button holes. Cant't wait to move on to machine embroidery, quilting and applique. My winter nights will be a joy. I have had a Frister Rossman for 20 years and it is still going strong so this one has a lot to live up to - signs are good. (Posted October 23, 2012)

My overall rating is: out of 5. Excellent I purchased this machine to replace my 30 year old Frister Rossman which still works perfectly. The new one is every bit as good if not better. Have found it easy to use and a great price. The service was excellent as well. (Posted October 23, 2012)

My overall rating is: out of 5. Excellent Being disabled & in a wheelchair find this machine a real treat to use, very easy to understand the various programmes.Having the option of the start/stop on the machine makes life easier not having to use the foot control. One regret I wish I'd bought one years ago!!! Certainly would recommend this machine (Posted May 22, 2012)

My overall rating is: out of 5. Excellent My first electronic sewing machine and definately an excellent choice. It is so straightforward to use and the display screen clear and well positioned. Highly recommended for any quilter and for home sewing. The extension table is a real bonus. (Posted February 16, 2012)

My overall rating is: out of 5. Excellent Love the machine!!! It arrived in less then 24 hours, first thing in the morning. Tried it out straight away but instruction manual does have spelling mistakes. Read it with that in mind and it made sense with a little bit of my own guess work. Button holes and letters work best on a slow speed but it all looks lovely. I loved being able to use it with out the foot pedal. Makes the different patterns very easy to create. Beautiful looking and the hard cover is brilliant. Value for money, as my own research showed that a machine like this would be a lot more expensive with a different name on it. My overall rating is: out of 5. Good This machine ticks most of the boxes and is well worth the money. It sews beautifully, nice tight even stitches and once you understand the computerised instructions is a doddle to work.
Having been used to my old Janome Memory Craft 8000 I had to re-adjust myself to this one. Quilting free hand wasn't easy: the thread kept snapping. But with a good quality embroidery thread I overcame that and it now quilts well. I love the Frister Rossmann more and more each time I use it. I like the fact it has many of the features of my old Janome but without the price tag. It is excellent value for money, is a good solid machine which came with many quality extras. Compared to many well known brands on the market the QE404 more than holds it own, you get a lot for your money.
The downside:
the manual is poor to understand so I made my own notes and can now work the computerised stitches perfectly. I'd like to see a better instruction manual.
Also it isn't whisper quiet, but no noisier than any other machine. All in all a great machine for the money. (Posted September 27, 2011) -

My overall rating is: out of 5. Good I purchase this machine after seing all the features it had and wanting to up grade from my old machine that I had since college.
I'm very happy with the frister Rossman QE404 and tried all the stitches as soon as i received it.It's the first time I have a computerised machine. The only disapointing thing is the stitched eyelet which I was particularly looking forward too; it doesn't come out as a proper circle and the stitches around are not defined enough. The fact that the size of some stitches is already pre-determined and can't be changed is also annoying and a let down. Apart from that so far so good and I just need to get started sewing. The machine has got great many features and the price is incredible when comparing to other make/performance. It seems well built ; not at all cheap looking. Great for embellishing fabrics. It would be even better if it came with a more comprehensive manual or even a DVD. (Posted September 22, 2011)
